Robotics Teachers Training at the European Space Agency

On top of the teachers training workshop on space there is another traning option at the European Space Agency: this one is speific to Robotics and for Primary education

In what follows you can find the relative information, copied from the page
you should refer to it for updates and links to the application form.

Upper primary school teachers from ESA Member and Associate States* are invited to apply to a new and unique training module on robotics. The deadline for submission of applications is 1 May 2017.

The workshop will take place on 29 and 30 June 2017 at ESA’s e-robotics lab, an education facility located at ESA’s  Redu centre in Belgium. During the 2-day workshop, teachers will learn how to use space robotics to explain physics and technology curricular subjects.  During the workshop they will discover and master new tools and inquiry-based practices for teaching STEM at school.

The number of available seats is limited, so hurry and send your application!

What to expect

The workshop participants will be guided through activities that can be performed in the classroom: creating robots using LEGO WeDO and using them to perform a ‘mission to Mars’ with specific discovery objectives.  Gear and pulley combinations, energy resources, and computer programming are among the subjects that will be covered and investigated.

Inspired by real ESA space missions, participants will learn about the different kinds of expertise and skills necessary to make a space project successful, and will be given hints about possible science and technology careers.

Who can apply?

The workshop is open to upper primary school teachers residing and working at a primary school within any ESA Member or Associate State*.

How and when to apply
Teachers wishing to participate should fill in the application form

The deadline to submit applications is 1 May 2017 (the workshop will take place on 29 and 30 June 2017). Applicants will be notified by 22 May 2017 on whether or not their participation to the workshop is confirmed.

Workshop details
The workshop will take place at ESA’s Redu Centre in Belgium. The programme includes a visit of ESA’s Redu Centre and the nearby Euro Space Centre (ESC). Further practical details will be communicated directly to the selected participants.

The workshop will be held in English.

Attendance to the entire workshop is mandatory.

Sponsorship and costs

Selected teachers should autonomously arrange and book their travel from a departure point in an ESA Member or Associate State to the location of the training course, and back to their original departure point. ESA will reimburse travel expenses up to a maximum of 200 € per teacher. These expenses will be reimbursed to the teacher’s bank account after the event, only after presentation of valid, original receipts.

For the duration of the workshop, accommodation, catering, and local transportation will be organised, booked, and paid by ESA’s Education Office. Teachers will be sharing hotel rooms.

Teachers are responsible for the arrangement of their passports, visas, and any additional insurance they require.
