2019 RIBA President's Medals

The Royal Institute of British Architects is now welcoming entries for the 2019 RIBA President’s Medals from schools of architecture worldwide.

Awarded for the first time in 1836, the RIBA President’s Medals are considered the most prestigious awards in architectural education in the world. Since their early days, the aim of the awards has been to promote excellence in the study of architecture, to reward talent and to encourage architectural debate worldwide. In addition to inviting RIBA-validated schools of architecture to participate, each year we select a number of non-validated schools to make nominations. I am delighted to include your school in this category and invite you to enter this year’s awards.

Your school of architecture is invited to nominate entries in the following categories:

  • One dissertation for the RIBA Dissertation Medal (written by a student/s who is/are enrolled in, is/are about to complete, or have completed the current or most recent academic year of a professional qualification in Architecture (RIBA Part 1 or RIBA Part 2 in the case of institutions offering qualifications validated by the RIBA) to be submitted by the deadline of 6pm on Monday 22 July
  • Up two design projects for the RIBA Bronze Medal (produced by a student/s who is/are enrolled in, is/are about to complete, or have completed an RIBA Part 1 qualification in the current or most recent academic year, or the first three years of an professional qualification in Architecture in the case of institutions not validated by the RIBA) to be submitted by the deadline of 6pm on Wednesday 18 September
  • Up two design projects for the RIBA Silver Medal (produced by a student/s who is/are enrolled in, is/are about to complete, or have completed an RIBA Part 2 qualification in the current or most recent academic year, or the last two years of an professional qualification in Architecture in the case of institutions not validated by the RIBA) to be submitted by the deadline of 6pm on Wednesday 18 September

These forms can also be downloaded from www.presidentsmedals.com/documents.aspx. RIBA staff will upload the entries to the award’s website and prepare submissions for judging.

The Guidelines and Requirements document attached should provide all information required to make nominations and should be shared with the nominees. We recommend that you read this document and keep it for future reference. Please note that schools that do not offer courses validated by the RIBA will have to pay a registration fee of GBP 420.00 per entry. Information on how to process payment is also attached.
