Leman-Baikal project blog

July 28th, 2014

Busy Monday morning. Russian and Swiss teams get to know each other. Excursion to Kabansk to get remaining missing materials and equipment. The conference room is converted to the development center. Cables and computers are everywhere.

VISNX cameras are installed on the ULM. A beautiful setup. Can't wait to see them fly. The weather, however is not exactly perfect. The wind picks up.

Baptist, Natacha and Galia leave for the Selenga delta for the first time. Reconnaissance trip to get everybody up to speed with the environment and each other.

Finally towards the evening the wind settles down. The ULM taxi for take-off, but it's too late for remote sensing. Natacha takes the opportunity for a ride over the delta.

Meanwhile, MSU students set up the laboratory for analysis of samples.

Dragos walking around with his oversized video-phone.

The rest of the Swiss team settle around the fireplace with vodkas and awesome music from Baptist and Sasha.

The field trip of the DELTAS conference, under the guidance of Professor Jeffrey Nittrouer of the Rice University, USA.

Jeff astutely running the show.

Water lilies in full bloom in the delta.

Horses roaming free (for a time) on the numerous delta's islands.

Heated discussion between the scientists around the map of the delta

... and between Noa and Lucie

Hardship

Delivery of the main remote sensing equipment is delayed. The Airway Bill (AWB) was not filled in correctly by the shipping company and was adressed to SVO instead of DMO. The equipment is back in Lausanne. This means four days of delay.
