Groups Composition III
Hello,
some announcements:
1) Sajjadpour Mahdi with Bostanipour Behnaz form a new group (C13)
2) there is one group in "A" turn and three in "B" composed by only one student, so those who are willing to move to one of those turns can take this opportunity.
Enjoy

Groups Composition II
Hello,
according to the feedback we had up to now, we propose to have the lab session for group C on friday, from 16.15 to 18.00.
Group composition is the same as announced before, except in group a23, where Sajjadpour Mahdi switches with Bostanipour Behnaz in c5.
All newly registered students who did not subscribe to any group up to now, will automatically be allocated in group c.
Thanks.

Preparation document for Lab2 now available
The document explaining what you should know for lab2 and its prereq is now available on the course web page. It also contains sample questions (there is also a second file with solutions).

Just to remind you: The prereq for lab2 takes place on Nov 16 at 12:30. It is compulsory, graded and accounts for 30% of the grade of lab2.

Excerices on Thursday
Salut,

for the SatCom students there is an introduction into the SatComToolKit from 1300-1700. It´s not an obligation to be there but it´s for sure interesting.
So I want to ask if the excercises are graded or if the solutions will be published on the Internet.

Greetings Johann

Groups Composition
Hi all,
here is the composition of the groups, up to now (there are some typos in names, as some students are not registered yet).
Please check that everything is ok.

In order to satisfy the requests of those students who subscribed to a "B" group but have some overlapping between this course and other courses, we decided to schedule a third session for "C" groups.

In session "C" are by default all those students who did not fit in the other two sessions, and who did not come and sign for the labs in front of BC260. Moreover, everybody who is not happy with its allocation can change from session A or B to C (until space is available). As "A" and "B" sessions are already full, you can only be allocated there if you manage to swap with someone else.

The proposed time for the "C" session is on Friday from 14.00 to 16.00.
Please tell if it is ok for you, and/or propose any alternative schedule which would fit you.

Access to the internet from lab INF 019 - The solution
Hi all,
please pay attention when connecting to the "epfl hub": on some of them there is a port which should ALWAYS be empty, otherwise the whole hub will not work, and you will not manage to get to the internet. It is the port that we indicated with a red arrow: as you can see, it is written "uplink or 8". As on thoise hubs uplink is always taken (it corresponds to the connection to the internet), you should never use port 8.

tp1 typos and clarifications
1) page 7: #ifconfig eth0 192.168.X.2 netmask 255.255.0.0

-> the netmask is wrong, it should be 255.255.255.0 (as explained in pg. 4).

2) page 7: Which modifications were made to the routing table? What will new entry be used for (regarding sending of IP packets)? List other entries of the routing table and explain the purpose of each of them.

-> you have to explain the entry that was not in the table before typing the previous command (ifconfig eth0 192.168.X.2 netmask 255.255.255.0) and that apeared upon typing that command.

-> other entry, 169.254, you are not obliged to explain (not graded) as this was not teached in the lectures, but if you are still interested you can easily find the info on the web (private addresses used for DHCP)

3) Section 5.4 . If you got the same results for all the IP addresses and for both ping commands (www.google.com and 209.85.135.103), that means caching of DNS was not (by mistake) turned off on your machine. Now we made sure that all the machines have the caching of DNS info turned off. If you want you may repeat this tests (recomended), but this section (5.4) will also not be graded.
